Trouble Report #TR10I02626
Added on: 2011-10-18
Last Modified: 2011-10-18
Product: NX Node
Affecting: 3.5.0
Platform: Ubuntu 11.x
Severity:
Serious
Status: Open
Target: 3.5.0
Opened by: Silvia Regis
Technical Responsible: Gian Filippo Pinzari
The User menu may be missing in the top panel when the NX session is running the Unity 2D desktop on ubuntu 11.10
When the desktop environment is Unity 2D from Ubuntu 11.10, the User menu may be missing inside the NX session.

This is due to the fact that the XDG_SESSION_COOKIE environment variable is missing.

As a possible workaround, you can create a script to:
  • set the XDG_SESSION_COOKIE variable, e.g.:
    export XDG_SESSION_COOKIE=8c8....
Value of that variable can be retrieved from the user's environment.

  • and launch the desktop session:
    exec /usr/bin/gnome-session
Then it is necessary to modify the NX Node configuration file, namely /usr/NX/etc/node.cfg  and edit the CommandStartGnome key to run the freshly created script. For example:

CommandStartGnome = "/tmp/myscript.sh"
