Second Maintenance Release of NX 3.0.0 Client Packages

ROME, Italy, July 20th, 2007 - NoMachine makes available the second maintenance release of NX Client 3.0.0. This release fixes a number of problems such as:

  • Sessions can fail to start when NX Client is launched with Power User rights on Windows.
  • NX Client may be unable to start a session on Windows if the username contain non-English characters and file system is NTFS.
  • NX Client by default doesn't create session files with encryption of all traffic enabled.
  • Squares may be displayed in the About tab of the NX Client GUI for Solaris.

Trouble Reports solved

TR07E01780 - NX Client provides a misleading message when it is unable to establish an unencrypted channel

TR07E01781 - NX Client by default doesn't create session files with encryption enabled

TR08D01481 - The session may fail to start on Windows with error 'Unable to retrieve the port of local display'

TR01E01593 - NX Client may be unable to start a session if the username contains non-English characters and file system is NTFS

TR07E01767 - NX Client may fail to start a session when running on earlier Windows versions

TR01E01620 - The nxservice component may fail to start NXWin when launched with Power User rights

You can download the latest client from the NoMachine Web site at the following URL:

Installation

EXE version for Windows
  • Log on with an administrative account (an account that has the privileges to install software packages)  
  • Download the EXE
  • Open the folder where you saved the package and install it by double clicking on the icon of the NX Client executable. The NX Setup Wizard will take you through the installation.

RPM version for Linux
  • Log on as superuser ("root")   
  • Download the RPM
  • Change your working directory to the location where you saved the package and install it by running from a console:
             # rpm -i nxclient-3.0.0-xy.i386.rpm

DEB version for Linux
  • Log on as superuser ("root")
  • Download the DEB
  • Change your working directory to the location where you saved the package and install it by running from a console:
             # dpkg -i nxclient_3.0.0-xy_i386.deb

TAR.GZ version for Linux
  • Log on as superuser ("root")
  • Download the TAR.GZ in the /usr directory
  • Change your working directory to the location where you saved the package and install it by running from a console:
             # cd /usr
             # tar zxvf nxclient-3.0.0-xy.i386.tar.gz

PKG.ZIP version for Mac OS X
  • Log on with an administrative account (an account that has the privileges to install software packages)
  • Download the PKG.ZIP
  • Open the folder where you saved the package and uncompress the archive by double clicking on the icon of the archive. Then double-click on the icon of NX client .pkg package: the Installer will take you through the installation.
 
SPARC.GZ version for Solaris
  • Log on as superuser ("root")
  • Download the SPARC.GZ
  • Change your working directory to the location where you saved the package and install it by running from a console:
            # gunzip nxclient-3.0.0-xy.sparc.gz
            # pkgadd -d nxclient-3.0.0-xy.sparc.gz


NoMachine NX OSS components

Together with the commercial NX products, this maintenance release sports updates to the following OSS component:

Technology Brief
Data encryption and security

NX security is guaranteed at every layer involved in the communication process. NX uses SSH public-key encryption and 128 bit volatile random cookie generation.

Multimedia support

NX transparently tunnels Linux multimedia channels. Not only does NX play KDE and Gnome system sounds, but you can listen to MP3s played on the server and local workstation simultaneously.

Unified support for all major remote desktop protocols

Thanks to its outstanding compression performances, NX is able to deliver X, RDP and RFB remote sessions using the same client. This is achieved by translating "foreign" protocols into X-Window, the native protocol of NX.
